Faux Wood
Here
is a fun easy way to mimic the look of wood on your next project. This a very
simple technique and the look is unique. I love to use this technique on
masculine projects or to make something look rustic or outdoorsy. It's so easy!
Supplies:
Coarse grain sandpaper (100 grit or lower)
brown cardstock
brown ink

Directions:
1.
Take a piece of brown cardstock the size needed for your project. With the
coarse sandpaper, sand deep ridges in the cardstock so that the white core shows
through. I like to sand in slightly curved "rings" the you might see
in wood.
2. Once the cardstock is sanded, use a lighter brown ink and rub it on the
sanded areas. This fills in the white with a different shade of brown leaving
lighter and darker marks like on real wood. That's it!
3. Play around with different colors of brown cardstock and ink to mimic
different types of wood. Use lighter browns for light wood and dark browns for
more cherry or darker colored woods.
